Blacksburg, VA – November 8, 2025 – Cambridge Computer partnered with Virginia Tech’s (VT) Advanced Research Computing (ARC) group to speak at the Fall Fluid Mechanics Symposium, a gathering of theoretical fluid dynamics researchers. The conference has been a longtime stepping stone for VT students preparing to present at larger conferences beyond the university.
Cambridge Computer presented on recent work simulating and analyzing two-fluid flow, an area where the underlying theory has long outpaced the computational tools available to actually solve it.
The talk walked through a set of equations describing how two fluid systems evolve over time, equations that, until now, no one had solved computationally. It covered how the numerical shortcomings holding earlier approaches back were identified, and the methods built to finally close that gap.
High fidelity simulation of complex flow systems is a genuinely hard computational problem, and few groups build and maintain their own simulators capable of advancing new theoretical physics. That combination of theoretical depth and hands-on experience advancing purpose-built simulators for high performance computing resources is why the ARC team wanted to engage with Cambridge and present to the researchers at the symposium.
Around 60 to 80 researchers attended the symposium, a smaller and more specialized crowd than a typical conference, reflecting the event’s focus.
