Abstract
Microsoft SQL presents a number of challenges for proper storage management and data protection. This lecture addresses a number of the most critical challenges, including:

Backup & Restore: Transactional databases present a unique challenge to administrators. While numerous backup software products support backing up SQL either cold or hot via SQL's backup APIs, they do not provide granular, point-in-time restores for specific database transactions. There are options available now to provide a centralized, transaction-level backup that can be easily restore by a systems or database administrator.

Clustering & Replication: SQL databases are often at the backend of websites, internal applications, and other mission-critical business functions. This lecture offers several solutions to clustering and replication SQL databases for business continuance or disk-based restores.

Students will leave the lecture with a broad understanding of the technologies and techniques for simplifying the SQL backup environment and taking better control of their database environments. Hopefully you will be surprised by how simple and affordable many of the solutions can be.
Intended Audience
This lecture is a hybrid of technical issues and business issues with a slant toward the technical. It is suitable for database administrators, storage administrators, and senior IT management.

A familiarity with networks, storage devices, backup systems, and the challenges of administering SQL is assumed.
