each applicant on the basis of his/her own merits. Sometimes, we may not
realize we have a need for a role until the right person presents himself/herself.
Available Positions
- Technical Consultant/Trainer
- Technical Sales/Consulting
- Sales Support/Inside Sales
- Technical Assistant
- Demand Generation/Business Development
- Business Operations and Accounting
Technical Consultant/Trainer(Unix/Windows)
This is a great role for technical people. You get a broad exposure to networking and general OS and database technologies while gaining specific expertise in Backup and Storage technologies-a generalist and a specialist all in one!
Preexisting knowledge of Unix varieties is preferred, but not required. These are hands-on roles that involve about 70% work at client sites, which means plenty of opportunity for travel and incredible exposure to a wide variety of corporate data centers!
Ideal candidates generally have an engineering, CS, or MIS degree and thrive on learning new technologies. They also probably have a network at home and are always the first kid on the block to have every new technical toy!
Technical Sales/Consulting
We are looking for people with an interest in the sales and consulting side of technology. This position still requires a rigorous mastery of technological concepts, terms, and products, but has less of the hands-on aspects of implementation and training that are inherent in the Technical Consultant/Trainer role.
People with many different educational backgrounds can be a fit for these roles. We are happy to invest in you and train you in technology. That's the easy part. You have to bring the energy, enthusiasm, elbow grease, and organizational skills to the table.
Ideal candidates may or may not be particularly technical. However, people who are drawn to technology in some way usually love these roles. People who are/were leaders of student organizations or sports teams and who are comfortable talking to small groups of people and putting forth their ideas and visions are great at these roles.
Entry-level positions in inside sales/support roles are also available and are good entry points for these kinds of positions.
Sales Support/Inside Sales
These positions manage communications and relationships among clients, vendors, and Cambridge Computer. You will coordinate internal resources, handle vendor relationships and reporting, and help clients identify the right products to buy. You will do this by, among other things, writing proposals, specifying technical purchases, and brokering technical information. This is a great way to learn the inner workings of the computer industry and a stepping-stone to consulting or sales positions in our company.
A qualified candidate would have:
- Great communication skills, written and oral
- Computer experience of some kind, work or hobby
- Some sales, team coordination, or project management experience.
You must be detail-oriented and highly organized or you will dislike this job.
Ideal candidates can come from many educational backgrounds and usually
have a love of organizational tools (especially computer/technical ones!),
great people skills, and enjoy being in the middle of the action. It's
also a great role for people who want to get into technology but maybe
have not yet found the right entry point.
Technical Specialist
This position is similar to the Inside Sales/Sales Support position but for more technically inclined individuals who can support our Solution Architects and more technical Sales Consultants in their work. If you like to learn about technology, do research, work with designing technical solutions, and compare and contrast products and technologies you will like this role. If you are hands-on, you will have the opportunity to build product demonstrations and to run WebEx presentations on technologies. You might put technical summaries together and train our sales team or you might write content for our website. This is a fabulous stepping-stone to a Solution Architect role.
If you worked in the computer lab at college or in an entry level IT role somewhere doing hands-on support of servers and infrastructure or even advanced help-desk support, you would love this role.
Demand Generation/Business Development
This is not your typical cold-calling role. Our roles are different from most cold-calling roles because we are almost always contacting our own clients or people we have met at trade shows and who are very receptive to us. We also have lots to offer: free technical lectures, webinars, and events that clients value highly. Many calls are requested follow-ups or customer service oriented.
This position is a great entry-level position for people who want to leverage their social skills on the phone to get into a technology sales position.
Business Operations and Accounting
In this role you would be exposed to the daily business and financial
operations of a growing technology company. You will work directly with
the controller and a small team of colleagues to:
- Establish new client accounts
- Manage invoicing and accounts receivable
- Administer human-resource benefits
- Assist in financial reporting
- Source and purchase IT products and services
- Approve and process accounts payable
- Provide exceptional customer service to both our internal and external
clients
Ideal candidates are well-rounded individuals who have a strong interest
in business and good numeric skills. A role in this group is like a survey
course on running a technology company because we are small enough that
everyone on the team gets great exposure to all facets of what we do,
yet large enough that we are dealing with quite a high volume of challenging
work.
